Frida Kahlo's Filigree earrings

These are fabulous handmade filigree earrings from Oaxaca, Mexico. They are created by the hands of artisans from the "Istmo de Tehuantepec" region and represent the traditional garb that consists of heavily embroidered garments accessorized with large amounts of gold jewelry....often gold filigree earrings like these! Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican painter, during her lifetime she adopted the traditional Tehuana attire as a means of showing her solidarity with the strong women of this matriarchal Zapotec society, and she would often wear this kind of jewelry just like these beautiful earrings. They are such brilliant statement pieces.
